About this role
Read Easy Leicester & District covers the city and surrounding areas. Currently we particularly need coaches who can work in the city.
A Reading Coach meets up with their Reader twice a week for half an hour at a time in a safe community venue. The Reading Coach will be provided with materials from Turning Pages, a phonics-based reading programme for adults, which has been designed to be used by volunteers and is central to the way we work. It is made up of five separate manuals, with 30 accompanying graded reading books, which have all been written specifically for adults.
On line training is provided on how to use the manuals. This is in the form of two 3 hour sessions of Initial Training and a further two 3 hour sessions of Consolidation Training. In addition the Coordinator who pairs you up with a Reader will also provide ongoing support. Further advice and guidance is provided by a Literacy Specialist.
The initial training session will give you a good introduction to the manuals and how to use the phonics approach, but every page also provides the Reading Coach with clear instructions.
Prospective Reading coaches will need to submit an application form, in the first instance, and if suitable will be invited to an an interview. We look forward to hearing from you!
