About

Voluntary Action LeicesterShire (VAL) has been providing services for volunteers and voluntary organisations in Leicester and Leicestershire for the last 50 years.

VAL began in 1965 as the Leicester Council of Social Service (LCSS) and has delivered a variety of services including the Leicester Citizens Advice Bureau, Home-Start (now an independent international network spanning 130 schemes) and Healthwatch Leicestershire.

In 2001 we merged with the Leicester Volunteer Centre, which is now based at our city centre offices on Newarke Street. Since then we’ve received Volunteer Centre Quality Accreditation (VCQA) from the National Council of Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) and helped tens of thousands of volunteers find roles that have contributed to the economy in both the city and the county.

The Leicester and Leicestershire Volunteer Centre

VAL is the home of the Leicester and Leicestershire Volunteer Centre. We are officially accredited as a Volunteer Centre, as well as with Investors in Volunteers status.

The Volunteer Centre is based at our main office on Newarke Street in Leicester City centre.
