About this role
Recruited Volunteers will support the delivery of Focus’s Summer Scheme (17-29 July 2023) by assist the project staff in delivering all aspects of the scheme from leading, advising and guiding a team of young people in the numerous activities throughout the fortnight. Tasks include preparing equipment and materials for sessions and everything in between.
Focus`s volunteers develop a range of transferable skills and become part of a supportive team, who are passionate about improving the prospects of young people. These skills can include leadership, communication, team working, action planning, and event & project management. Volunteers can also develop mentoring skills.
This is a great opportunity for those who want to make a difference to the lives of young people and the local community of Leicester. This role can really suit students looking for real experience in working out in community, or people looking to follow a career within the youth sector or a person who simply want to give their time to help support young people.
Essential qualities for the role are
Commitment to attending sessions
Ability to empathise with young people and a commitment to treating them with respect and dignity
Understanding of and sensitivity to cultural differences
Good verbal communication skills
Commitment to upholding Focus’ policies, especially with regard to health & safety and safeguarding
Out of pocket expenses
Expenses such as local travel and refreshments whilst volunteering can be covered by Focus, provided these are agreed in advance with project staff and required receipts are provided.

The application and selection process includes: registration, an interview, attend and complete our induction volunteer training programme on 29th June, 2nd July and 5th July (times provided on request) and undertake an Enhanced DBS check (paid for by Focus).
