About this role

North West Leicestershire District Community Ambassador

This is an exciting new opportunity to work alongside VAL staff and current volunteers to reach out to community groups and local communities to see what their needs and concerns are. The aim is to see how we might be able to support them to address these issues, and also to find solutions to key issues and local needs.

We are keen to hear from members of the public who want to improve their local community.  Your local knowledge would enable you to become the link between your local area and VAL.

The main towns in North West Leicestershire are Coalville and Ashby de la Zouch, with other major centres including Measham, Ibstock, Castle Donington and Kegworth, so if you live or work in these areas, or surrounding villages, then we would be keen to hear from you. As a largely rural district, the local community boasts enormous diversity including heritage and history such as the legacy of the mining industry and Donington Park.

We are already using this approach in one area of the county and we are keen to expand into new locations with your help. This role could involve joining VAL staff in meeting with local community groups and charities, attending local events, researching into what is happening in your area or getting out to chat with members of the public, but we would be open to ideas of what you think could help in your local area.

If you want to find out more we would love to hear from you.

Requirements

  • References needed
  • Age restrictions

How you actually get involved is open to discussion, but we would expect you to keep VAL informed of key updates in your local area, help us to make contact with groups in local communities, attend events and local venues to help us promote our services and help us to share key messages with people in your local area.
You will be given named contacts in VAL’s Sector Support team to work with and we will discuss the best ways to stay in touch with you. This role could work flexibly around your other commitments, so we would be keen to involve volunteers from a range of different backgrounds.
