Support the delivery of youth services and activities at our centre in Stockwell, ensuring young people have fun in a safe, social and educational space. Sessions run Tuesdays – Thursdays, 4 pm – 7.30 pm; and Fridays, 4 pm – 9 pm (excluding briefing/debriefing). Min. 2 sessions a week commitment.

About this role

You will support the delivery of youth services under the direction of the Youth Workers and provide high-quality youth work. This includes enabling young people to experience and contribute to the youth programme activities ensuring they are fun, safe, social and educational.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Assisting with the running and delivery of the youth club
  • Helping with the delivery and development of youth work in close collaboration with other staff
  • Assisting in the delivery of engagement/sports and/or theme-based activities
  • Establishing relationships and a style of working that will enable the young people to safely have fun and engage positively with their peers and staff
  • Promoting the participation of young people in the activities of the centre which include games and discussions with young people
  • Supporting the monitoring and evaluation of work, including providing input to sessional reports
  • Familiarising yourself with the local community amenities and providers of services for young people
  • Supervising young people and ensuring general health and safety and rules of conduct are followed at the Centre
  • Assisting with necessary evening session set-up and clean-up.

We are looking for a dynamic individual with a real passion and enthusiasm for supporting the charitable objectives of The Skills Spot C.I.C. to improve the lives of young people and young adults.
Sessions run Tuesdays – Thursdays, 4 pm – 7.30 pm; and Fridays, 4 pm – 9 pm (excluding 15 minutes of briefing/debriefing).
Minimum 2 sessions a week commitment.

In discussion with our young people, we believe the right Youth Support Workers would:
- Be aged 25 or over
- Have a good understanding of the principles of youth work
- Have tenacity and commitment to enable young people to thrive high level of resilience and adaptability
- Possess a willingness and ability to be a team player
- Hold developed listening and verbal skills
- Be enthusiastic and passionate about young people and communities
- Have a sense of humour whilst being respectful, humble and committed
- Have the ability to build and promote healthy, positive lasting relationships with young people
- Possess an understanding and awareness of the importance of safeguarding young people
- Be committed to anti-oppressive practice, underpinned by an understanding and promotion of equality and diversity.

We are keen to hear from those who have previous lived experience in a youth centre or other youth organisation.
Previous Youth Work experience and/or qualified Level 1 or Level 2 Youth Support Worker is not essential, but beneficial.
