About this role
The role of the site manager is to manage the site organisational and practical elements of putting on the annual Moira Canal Festival.
The event is held in the grounds of the listed Moira Furnace, on the banks of the restored Ashby Canal. The next festival is over the weekend of 18,19 May 2024. The retiring site manager will be available to assist with the handover. as required. The role of the site manger and the committee will be to provide an event which is both enjoyed by the local community, and takes a moderate profit to support the restoration or maintenance of the Ashby Canal for the benefit of the public.
Responsibilities will include Health and Safety, liaison with Local Authorities and emergency services and organisation of services such as power, toilets, marquees, waste disposal, public address system, first aid provision and on site communication.
Attendance of around 3 days over the festival weekend is required to set up, manage any issues over the weekend and break down on Monday (Usually done by lunchtime).
Attendance at regular committee meetings would be useful, and Zoom meetings would be acceptable (we have one member who uses Zoom regularly). However, actual face to face meetings may be better, especially in the first familiarisation phase. These meetings are held in Snarestone.
The events manager will be appointed a member of the Moira Canal Festival committee, members of which are responsible for trade, catering, finance, entertainment and publicity.
There will be volunteers available over the festival period to assist with setting up, running and break down of the event.
