About this role

Leicestershire Shared Reading has been running successfully for 10 years, we have an established committee and an existing volunteer who takes care of the administrative duties of a Secretary, including preparing for and minuting meetings. The Secretary brief we are recruiting for is fairly open and may include helping to set up new groups, liaising with partner organisations, publicising our work and recruiting volunteers.

We currently offer shared reading in the following Leicestershire Libraries: Ashby, Coalville, Melton Mowbray (online) Hinckley, Glenfield, Wigston, Wednesday evening Zoom, Thursday afternoon zoom. New groups are planned in Blaby, Loughborough and Market Harborough.

Shared Reading is a powerful tool to connect and support people, here are some quotes our participants have shared about why they take part:

  • It has become part of my life. My group meeting is sacrosanct, I look forward to it.
  • Our groups have such warm, friendly, lively, lovely, welcoming members.
  • I’m blessed to be in such a great group.
  • The group is very supportive and helps with my dyslexia.
  • My mind is kept alive and active.
  • Combats loneliness and gets me out of the house.
  • I forget my problems and it lifts my spirits.
