About this role
We have a range of sessions available to schools which include explaining aspects of the Synagogue and Jewish faith as well as activities using objects and artefacts and audio-visual equipment. School visits happen regularly throughout the school year. Volunteers would be trained and have the opportunity to assist an experienced presenter until they feel confident to lead a session themselves.
Activities
· Education Volunteers will set up for the session before the school arrives and put away resources afterwards
· Education volunteers will greet and welcome the group and deliver information about the Synagogue
· Volunteers will also explain about the Jewish way of life including festivals, dietary laws, worship etc
· Volunteers will oversee activities where the children can access objects and artefacts and also find out information via an audio-visual display
· Education volunteers should be aware of any potential health and safety issues and inform the HCM as appropriate.
Skills the volunteer will develop
· You will develop your presentation and communication skills and experience of working with children and young people
· You will develop your knowledge of Judaism and local history
· You will develop your skills in using interactive displays and doing object work
