About this role
Volunteers are welcome to support family sessions on a Saturday either all day (9.30-3.30) or half days (am / pm).
At Rainbow Horses we offer a child-centred therapeutic learning approach for neurodivergent young people and young people with attachment and developmental trauma. We focus on developing emotional regulation, self-awareness, resilience, and social and communication skills through adult-supported interaction with horses, other animals, and the natural environment on our seven acre rural site.
Our Saturday sessions focus on the interaction and communication that occurs between the learner, animals, session leader and family members. Opportunities to interact with the horses are provided through meeting the herd in the field, sensory exploration, brushing, feeding and leading as well as in games and activities when riding.
As a volunteer you will work alongisde a qualified facilitator and support the sessions by fetching equipment, supporting families, making refreshments and guiding siblings and families around the site.
We suggest the following:
A love of animals and being outdoors – the sessions run in most weathers and you can be outside for a large proportion of the time. We also work alongside a wide range of animals from equines, rodents to reptiles and although you don’t have to be really confident in handling these, it is help to have a curiosity around them.
No formal qualifications are required however an interview and trial shift will be requested. You will also be reuired to complete a DBS check and follow safer recruitment processes.
