About this role
You will be part of a supportive team of trained volunteers who provide a 24/7 telephone helpline and meet people face to face. We train and support you to be able to provide this much needed listening service in the local and wider community. You must be caring, non-judgemental, and confidential. You will need to have at least 4 hours a week to spare, and it is essential that you are reliable and can communicate with fellow volunteers.
Leicester Samaritans Listening Volunteers work together to reach out to those who are going through a difficult time. We ask you to fill in an application form and attend an interview. This gives us the chance to get to know each other. To make sure you’re fully prepared for your role, you will take part in a thorough training programme. This will help you understand how to give your full attention to each caller, without judgement and without giving advice. The training takes place over several months and is a great chance to meet other Samaritans volunteers and develop a good understanding of what Samaritans do.
