About this role
What will you be doing?
Our hospice is rich with stories that highlight the care we provide and the
difference our volunteers make. With your skills, you will help create a digital book
telling the stories of our volunteers and how they have helped shape and support the
charity since we opened our doors in 1985!
What skills will you need?
We are looking for a number of volunteers, you will work together to use your combined skills to create a creative and engaging digital book. You will need skills in either one or more than one area below:
1. Copywriting – Craft compelling stories and messages.
2. Photography – Capture meaningful moments and portraits.
3. Editing – Polish content to professional standards.
4. Graphic Design – Creating the style for the book
5. Project Management – Oversee the project timeline and ensure smooth collaboration.
More details about each skill:
Copywriter
Strong writing skills: Must demonstrate the ability to write clearly, engagingly, and concisely.
Storytelling: Ability to convey emotional and impactful stories, particularly in a non-profit or charitable context.
Research skills: Ability to gather information and conduct interviews with volunteers or staff to create compelling content.
Editing: Understanding of grammar, tone, and structure to ensure content is polished.
Creativity: Ability to craft content that aligns with the tone and mission of LOROS.
2. Photographer
Photography skills: Ability to capture high-quality images, including portraits and event photography.
Creativity and vision: Understand how to visually tell a story through images.
Editing and post-production: Basic knowledge of editing tools (e.g., Photoshop, Lightroom) to refine and enhance images.
Attention to detail: Ability to frame and capture compelling, meaningful moments.
Interpersonal skills: Comfort with interacting with volunteers and staff to ensure natural, candid shots.
3. Editor
Editing skills: Experience with refining and polishing written content to ensure it is clear, concise, and grammatically sound.
Attention to detail: Ability to spot errors and inconsistencies in tone, structure, and style.
Consistency: Ensure that the digital book maintains a cohesive tone and style across all sections.
Project collaboration: Ability to work with writers and photographers to bring all elements together cohesively.
Time management: Ability to manage deadlines effectively and maintain a smooth workflow.
4. Graphic Design
Layout Design: Experience designing multi-page documents or books, ensuring a visually appealing and user-friendly flow, choose creative elements that enhance readability while maintaining a cohesive and professional look.
Knowledge of maintaining a consistent look and feel aligned with LOROS branding, colours, and overall tone.
Visual Storytelling: Ability to interpret and enhance the content’s emotional stories through visual elements, creating a design that complements the copy.
Creativity: Skill in developing unique and engaging design concepts that draw attention to key messages, like the role of volunteers and the 40th-anniversary milestone.
Exporting for Digital Use: Understanding of how to format the digital book for online platforms, ensuring it is optimized for web viewing, email, and social media. Ensure the book is accessible and visually appealing across different devices (e.g., desktops, tablets, smartphones).
4. Project Manager
Organisational skills: Ability to coordinate multiple aspects of the project, from content creation to design.
Leadership: Experience leading a team, ensuring all volunteers stay on track with their individual tasks.
Time management: Ability to set timelines, track progress, and ensure the project is completed on schedule.
Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to manage and liaise between different team members, ensuring everyone is aligned.
Problem-solving: Ability to anticipate and address challenges as they arise during the project lifecycle.
