About this role
Volunteer Organiser wanted for Moira Canal Festival!
Moira Canal Festival is looking for a Volunteer Organiser, which involves sorting out coverage for several gates at the festival. The event is held annually at the Moira Furnace, usually the weekend before the end of May bank holiday. The current volunteer organiser is now concentrating on sorting out the boats and the all-important duck race, but she will be available to advise, and provide her database of volunteers. The event for next year is the weekend of 17,18 May 2025, and we will be having monthly committee meetings on Thursdays from October this year.
The job is what you make it. Meetings are held at Snarestone, monthy in the evening, and most of the other pre-festival work can easily be done from home. Access to a computer is essential, as most volunters contact us by email. Spreadsheet skills may help, but not esential. Attendance over the the festival weekend will be required, where you will be supported by the treasurer and trade manager, and on the day before to help organise entry points.
We are on our 22nd festival, and the committee is well established. The event is popular, with many people, particularly locals, coming every year. We raise money to help maintain the Ashby Canal at Moira, and, ultimately to reconnect the Ashbty Canal at Moira to the national canal network.
