About this role

The Birstall Methodist lunch club has a friendly atmosphere and gives an opportunity for its members to meet for a meal and to socialise.  Most of the members are over 80 years old and this weekly meeting greatly contributes to their well being.  The club is run in a gentle manner with smiling and laughter from both members and volunteers alike.

The club has been running for over 50 years and takes a great deal of combined effort from all its volunteers.  The initial need is for someone to load, operate and empty the dishwasher, and to help serve up the lunches (which are cooked off premise).  There is a physical requirement to lift the plastic trays of the dishwasher which can contain up to 20 plates.

There is scope to help in other areas as sadly the average age of the volunteers is getting higher whilst becoming less physically able.  Other areas where volunteers could help are in serving as waiter/waitress or helping on the minibus which brings some of the less physically able members to the lunch club.  Training is arranged where necessary such as hygiene courses and safeguarding and a DBS check is required to work on the minibus.
