Dad’s Project Volunteers

About this role

Home-Start Horizons provides support to families across Leicester and Leicestershire. Our recently launched Dad’s project exists to provide support specifically to Dads through one-to-one support and group activities.

Our group activities run monthly in an informal setting and take place in various locations across the county. They are designed to create a space where Dads can meet together for peer support. Group volunteers will need to be willing to give 3 hours per month. The role involves helping with the practicalities of running the group including setting up and packing down, as well as engaging with Dads who attend the group to help create a safe and welcoming environment for those attending.

One-to-one volunteers will support a specific family on a weekly basis, the commitment is around 3 hours per week. Families can be facing a wide range of challenges, and our volunteers are there to provide support tailored to the specific family. This might be practical help, like form filling, helping them get to appointments, finding playgroups or schools – or it might be emotional support, listening is a big part of what our volunteers do.

• References needed
• Willing to take a DBS Check

All volunteers need to have parenting experience, and will need to undertaking a training programme before starting their role.

We require a satisfactory DBS clearance at enhanced level and 2 references.

Volunteers will receive supervision and support from staff, and will be re-imbursed for any expenses incurred as a result of volunteering.
