What does being a Community Champion Volunteer mean?
Every year more than 450 women aged 16 and over, living in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland reach out for support in their recovery journey from the trauma of childhood sexual abuse. Quetzal provide free and inclusive counselling, support and outreach to empower women so they can change their lives for the better. We can’t do it alone. We are grateful for our volunteers up and down Leicestershire and Rutland who support, raise awareness and fundraise for Quetzal in their communities.
Not many people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland have heard about Quetzal, they’re not aware of our name, our cause, the full extent of our work. Join us as a Quetzal Community Champion Volunteer to help more people hear about the value of counselling and the importance of Quetzal while also creating amazing fundraising opportunities in your local area. You will be helping build an empowered network of dedicated fundraising volunteers.
By volunteering with Quetzal, you will have the opportunity to use your skills to support and have fun. With your support, we are able to provide free counselling support, emotional support, training and outreach as well as information and support to help survivors break free from the trauma of abuse and exploitation.
There is a lot of scope with this role, and we can tailor this role in a way that best suits the individual so that they may get the most of their volunteering experience.
Key responsibilities
We are looking for volunteers who can bring their leadership skills and passion for Quetzal to life locally. This role can work flexibly to suit your availability and other commitments. We may ask you to:
Support the Volunteer Manager and the team represent Quetzal in your community and help promote our work and increase fundraising opportunities
Actively engage and build relationships with local groups and associations.
Give talks and short presentations about Quetzal and inspire others to support our life saving work.
Accept fundraising donations on behalf of the Quetzal from community groups and organisations, attending cheque collections and saying a few words of thanks.
Act as a lead volunteer at local Quetzal events like collections and cheerpoints, managing and supporting other volunteers on the day.
Support and facilitate awareness-raising sessions
Essential / desirable qualification and qualities
There are no pre-requisites for this role in terms of professional qualifications, however, some experience, education or training in event management, support skills, and a creative flair would be an advantage.
Role Commitments
The time commitment needed for this role will vary depending on the time of year and number of groups and associations actively supporting Quetzal within your local area and the time you have available to volunteer.
3 – 6 hours a week, remotely and in-person at Quetzal 14-16 Talbot Lane LE1 4LR
Support offered
As a Community Champion Volunteer, you’ll receive:
A comprehensive induction to Quetzal and training for the role.
Resources to support you in your role e.g. presentations.
Support from the Volunteer Manager and Quetzal Team
The opportunity to gain and develop skills and to meet other volunteers.
What will you gain from this opportunity?
You will learn new skills and gain experience for related roles such as research, fundraising, event management and marketing. Volunteering at Quetzal is a fantastic opportunity for the right person to gain greater insight and understanding of this area of work in the not-for-profit sector. You will also gain the satisfaction of supporting our essential work and develop an awareness and understanding of the issues around the trauma of childhood sexual abuse.
Expenses
Volunteers are welcome to claim back expenses that are incurred whilst volunteering. This includes travelling via public transport and parking fees.
Expenses are processed monthly and paid by BACS – bank details will be requested when the first claim is made.
Important information
This role is not suitable for current clients of Quetzal or anyone who has used our services in the last 12 months due to the potentially triggering nature of the role.

A DBS check is required for volunteering with Quetzal. This will be paid for.
