About this role
VASL’s Community Champions is looking for caring people over the age of 18 to volunteer their time and skills, to help isolated or lonely people (over 60 who live in the Harborough District) reconnect with their local community, discover new opportunities and achieve their personal goals, with your support, encouragement and companionship.
In a nutshell, we want to help good things happen for people, not just when our staff and volunteers are with them, but all the time. You’ll be matched to the person you support for a year so will have plenty of time to build their social confidence and connections.
Your role will involve:

- Making weekly visits to offer a listening ear and social contact

- Liaising with and feeding back to project worker

- Attending an initial training session

Requirements

Skills required:
Good communication skills: the ability to listen as well as talk.
Empathy and calm manner; able to build trust.
Organised and able to report verbally or in written format about client visits.
Reliable and able to signpost client appropriately.
Enjoys learning and applies learning to volunteer role.
You will need to complete a registration form and attend an informal interview following which we take up 2 references. After that you will be invited to attend a training course (approximately six hours) and then we can arrange an introduction.
