This is a vital role in the Museum. Work with the collection to follow new leads, develop the document and online archives, and use training and knowledge to enhance our valuable collection. Research items in our collection to find out where they came from and what their importance is.

About this role

Working with, and reporting to, the Museum Manager. This is a new opportunity to work with the collection and investigate objects that have lain packaged-up for years! We need to know the importance of many of our objects, especially our collection of photos. We are a local history museum. The site has been a school since 1697, so we have quite an eclectic collection!

·       Examine objects and documents in our collections

·       Follow leads, visiting other archives where appropriate

·       Write up your findings so others can access your research

·       Discuss your research and progress with the Museum Manager, Collections Conservator, and other relevant parties

·       Work with the Education and Exhibition teams to develop new ways of showing your research to the public

Requirements

  • Willing to take a DBS Check

You'll need enthusiasm, an interest in history, and an ability to undertake research. You don't need to be an academic, but you must be able to record your thoughts and findings. THe museum is situated above a school, so you'll need to undergo a DBS check.
• You will be able to work well with others
• You might have some experience in collection management
• You will have a real interest in history
• You will be able to research thoroughly
• You will be able to present your work in such a way that other people (the Museum Manager!!!) can understand it, although you will work with others to develop your research in to exhibitions
