Trustees are a team of volunteers who form the Board of Trustees. They look at the big picture, develop strategy and make decisions to support the smooth running of the Scout Group, and to ensure that the charity is run appropriately in accordance with the objectives of the charity.

About this role

Thorpe Acre Scout Group has operated for over 90 years and is based at the Scout Hut, Thorpe Acre Road Loughborough. The Group currently has around 40 to 50 members with ambitions for significant growth.

The Scout Group is a registered charity with a Board of Trustees, a group of volunteers who see the big picture, make strategic decisions and provide oversight to help with the smooth running of the Scout Group.

Roles within the Board of Trustees include Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and general Trustees. Areas of responsibility include management, finance, safeguarding, recruitment, fundraising, and community.

We are seeking volunteer Trustees with experience or interest in these areas.

As a Trustee you will be responsible, supportive and have the Groups best interests at heart. In return you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping prepare many more people for the future with skills for life.

The Trustee board meets in the evening approximately four times a year plus, there is an AGM. Meeting usually take place on a Monday evening.

Trustees will have access to a broad range of online resources via the Scout Association platform to support you in your role.

The position is held for one year minimum or longer subject to re-election at the AGM

The Trustee roles do not require any previous Scouting experience, but work-related, lived or other voluntary sector-related experience will help.

Requirements

  • References needed
  • Willing to take a DBS Check

• Two references required
• Willing to obtain a DBS clearance
• Eligible to act as a charity trustee.
• Attend a welcome meeting with existing volunteers
• Complete a number of mandatory online training modules within set timescale

It is expected that whilst volunteering with Scouts you will undertake regulated activity.
