About this role
We are a café, charity shop and community centre offering friendship and practical support for everyone in Kibworth and surrounding villages. While The Well is built on a Christian foundation, we are open to everybody of any faith or none. We aim to be a hub for the local community – in particular to offer support and advice to those most in need – where all who enter our doors feel welcome, valued, loved and appreciated.
If you have a few hours to spare and want to help the community of Kibworth and surrounding villages, please do complete an application form.
We are looking for enthusiastic people to volunteer with us as ‘Cafe Leads’ in our vibrant café space. Experience of working in a cafe will be a help, but is not essential as training will be given. However, the ability to learn quickly and adapt is important, as is the ability to keep calm and cope well under pressure. As part of this role, you will be responsible for opening up and closing the cafe, operating the till and cashing up, working the coffee machine, supervising other volunteers and drawing up rotas, preparing hot and cold food and contributing to our welcoming atmosphere. You may also be asked to work with and supervise volunteers with additional needs for which guidance will be given.
Our cafe is a very sociable environment, so you would also find yourself chatting with customers and other volunteers about their days and life experience to help make everyone feel welcome and comfortable.
We would ask cafe Leads to be available for at least one shift a week, which would usually be for four hours per shift. We may also contact you to take on additional shifts occasionally when managers or other Cafe Leads are on leave.
There is no end date to this opportunity.

The cafe is often busy, and our Lead Volunteers are responsible for opening up and closing the cafe, operating the till and cashing up, working the coffee machine, supervising other volunteers, preparing food and contributing to our welcoming atmosphere. The role also requires the ability to work as part of a team, be reasonably fit as the work may require standing for long periods, have a willingness to perform any task that may be required, genuinely be able to get on with other volunteers and the public thus having a friendly, pleasant personality. Volunteers who have already undertaken food hygiene certificates would be most welcome, but we can arrange for new volunteers to go through a food hygiene course and also an appropriate first aid course. Whilst we welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and with different beliefs, you will uphold the ethos of The Well at all times.
