Over the past few months, we’ve had the absolute joy of welcoming university students into Scout Groups across Leicester—and what a difference they’ve made!
These amazing volunteers have brought fresh energy, new perspectives, and heaps of enthusiasm to local groups—helping young people grow in confidence while gaining new skills themselves. From running creative activities to getting stuck into campfire fun, they’ve truly become part of the Scouting family.
A special shoutout goes to some of our brilliant international students from countries like Japan and India, who have been placed in groups where young people were fascinated to learn about what Scouting looks like across the globe. These connections sparked fun conversations, broadened horizons, and helped build cultural awareness in the most natural, joyful way.
One of our local student volunteers from the University of Leicester has even been teaching our Explorers some French—bringing a little language learning into their weekly sessions and showing just how much everyone can share and learn through volunteering!

Our student volunteers are living proof that with just a couple of hours a week, you can make a big impact—and have loads of fun doing it. The collaboration between the university and Scouting has been a total win-win!
