Canine Partners: Changing Lives Through the Power of Volunteering

Canine Partners is a dedicated UK charity transforming the lives of people with physical disabilities by partnering them with highly trained assistance dogs. These remarkable dogs provide practical hands‑on help with everyday tasks, while also offering companionship, confidence, and greater independence.

Volunteers are at the heart of everything Canine Partners does. From raising and training puppies in their own homes, to supporting dog breeding, fundraising, administration, and community events, volunteers play a vital role at every stage of a dog’s journey. With more than 1,000 volunteers involved, their passion and commitment help ensure each dog has the best possible start in life.

Puppy Training & Dog Care Roles
Volunteers play a crucial role in raising and training dogs at different stages of their journey. Puppy Training Volunteers welcome an 8‑week‑old puppy into their home for around a year, helping with early socialisation and confidence‑building to prepare them for assistance dog training. Dog Breeding Volunteers care for a well‑supported breeding dog and may help raise a litter of puppies, with guidance provided throughout—no previous experience required. Assistance Dog Training Volunteers provide loving homes for young dogs aged 14 months and over while supporting their ongoing training to become assistance dogs.

Support & Community Roles
Other volunteering opportunities include fundraising roles such as speakers, event helpers, and collection volunteers; home‑based administrative support to assist charity operations; and on‑site roles at the National Training Centre in Osgathorpe, including reception, facilities, and canine care positions.

People who volunteer at Canine Partners describe their experience as rewarding, life‑enhancing, and full of purpose. Many speak of the pride they feel knowing they are helping to transform someone’s future – while gaining new skills, friendships, and unforgettable experiences along the way.

“I have had long term anxiety and depression and the impact on my condition and my wellbeing has been huge. I am just so much happier and fulfilled and I genuinely love what I do.” Canine Partner Volunteer
