About the organisation:

St John Ambulance mobilises teams of volunteers to provide first aid services at local and national events. We also run a diverse and engaging youth programme offering opportunities to young people from age 5 to 18 years.

Full Details:

We are looking for new adult volunteer Youth Team Leaders and Helpers across Leicestershire & Rutland to assist with running weekly St John Ambulance Cadet & Badger Units.  Cadets (10 to 17 years) and Badgers (5 to 10 years) learn vital first aid skills along with developing their teamwork, communication and leadership skills in safe, supportive environments.

Older cadets also get opportunities to volunteer with adult first aid teams both locally and nationally to provide first aid assistance to members of the public.

Youth Leaders and Helpers are responsible for organising and running all or part of a weekly session with other leaders.  All resources needed to deliver the sessions are made available.  A DBS check will be required since you’ll be working with Children and Youth; full training is provided (both virtually and face-to-face) along with a uniform.  Reasonable out of pocket expenses are reimbursed.  We have a dedicated team of first aid trainers and demonstrators so Youth Leaders & Helpers are not expected to deliver first aid training to Children and Youth, although many of them choose to do so.  Typically a commitment of 2 to 2.5 hours per week is needed, Units generally meet one weekday evening each week between Monday and Thursday and sessions last 1.5hrs.

If you are interested in helping Children and Youth in your area develop life skills in a safe and supportive setting please consider volunteering with us.  Feel free to contact us for more information about the Units in your area or go to https://www.sja.org.uk/get-involved/volunteer-opportunities/volunteer-roles/youth-team/ for more details.

Once undertaking the role of a Youth Leader or Helper there is the opportunity to complete additional training and qualifications along with opportunities to volunteer in a range of other roles.
