About this role

About the project

We recognise that many people are struggling with their mental health right now and are unsure about how to improve their wellbeing. We provide 1-1 weekly phone calls, wellbeing workshops and support with accessing community resources.  Our free inclusive Wellbeing Befriending Service is here to support anyone living in the Harborough district and is 18 or above.

We are keen to connect directly with anyone considering volunteering. As a new valued member of our VASL team you will receive full training and regular support, as well as many opportunities to connect with other volunteers.  If you are keen to make a difference to the life of someone living in the Harborough district, then we would love to hear from you. We value the positive impact that volunteering has on the local community and are inclusive within our approach.

About the role

Telephone Befriender  

Each trained and trusted volunteer contacts a client on a weekly basis to support with setting targets based on the 5 ways to Wellbeing model (Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Learn, Give). The phone call is made from you home environment and you are entitled to claim expenses for the phone call.

• Effective communicator – giving clients space to talk, being an active listener
• Empathic, supportive, approachable and calm
• Positive realistic outlook
• Reliable & trustworthy
• Non-judgmental, ability to work with clients from diverse backgrounds
• Solid understanding of mental health issues and wellbeing
• References needed
