Leicester Community Connectors

The Community Connectors Service Volunteers will take a community centred approach to build confident and connected communities with the aims of reducing isolation and loneliness, improving physical and mental health, and reducing health inequalities.

The Service will take a holistic approach to addressing isolation and loneliness, ensuring that, in addition to organising social activities and events, people are gently supported and encouraged to make other changes leading to better health and wellbeing and greater social inclusion.

About the role
We are currently recruiting for the following three volunteer roles within the Leicester Community Connectors Service:

Community Group Facilitator Volunteer
Help develop and lead local community groups that improve mental health, wellbeing, and social connectivity. You will be supported by and work alongside a Community Connector to gain experience, with the goal of eventually leading and managing your own weekly community group. Activities could include arts and crafts, walking groups, coffee mornings, or hobby groups. We encourage you to bring your skills and interests to shape the group activities.

Community Support Volunteer
Provide one-on-one support to individuals who need assistance accessing community groups or activities. This may include offering physical support to attend groups or helping individuals learn to use technology (e.g., Zoom) to join online groups. Your role will be essential in making sure those facing barriers can engage and participate.

Community Outreach and Service Promotion Volunteer
Play a key role in promoting the Service by identifying local promotion opportunities, helping to create promotional materials, and distributing these across identified areas in Leicester. This role focuses on raising awareness of our services to the community and encouraging engagement.
This is also a great opportunity for those who have personally benefited from our

Information, advice, and guidance: We will offer information and advice and enable individuals to learn about mental health and well-being services in the local community.  We can discuss coping strategies and offer advice on things like benefits or relationships which are affecting an individual’s personal well-being.  We run regular pop-up/drop-in information and advice sessions around the local area.

One-to-one support with a trained Recovery Worker: working to improve mental health and achieve an individual’s personal goals.
