About this role

About the opportunity

We are looking for volunteer Skippers. Skippers are vital to our seven day a week operation and requires significant training as we operate to regulations set down by the Maritime and Coastal Agency. All training is provided at our base and is likely to take several months. If you have a background in boating or sailing this would be a distinct advantage. All our skippers hold a Boat Masters Licence, and all training and associated costs are supported by us.

Key Tasks will involve:

You will need some experience of boating however all training, in line with the requirements of the Maritime and Coastal Agency (MCA) will be given – an interest in boating and the canals is an obvious advantage. During our season April to October we run a seven day a week service. You will learn new skills and every trip is different so you will not have time to get bored!

Our skippers play a vital role in our trust and are responsible for the safety of passengers and coordination of crew on all our trips. A thorough understanding of the legislation around our boat operations and health & safety are vital, as is a commitment to both excellent customer communications and the aims of our trust. Each of our skippers are tested by the MCA and it is anticipated at least one whole season would be needed to train a skipper.

Time Commitment:

The time you can give us is very much appreciated, there is some flexibility however in most cases our day trips need volunteers from 9.15am to 4.30pm.
