About this role
Cambridgeshire County Councils Independent Visitor Service is looking for volunteers within Cambridgeshire and the surrounding counties to become Independent Visitors and establish a good quality, long-term relationship with an individual child in care.
Often these young people feel very isolated and would benefit hugely from visits from a volunteer who could regularly spend time with them. We are looking for volunteers who are willing to travel once a month, to visit a child that they are matched with to spend time together and have fun. (Mileage and a set amount for activities will be reimbursed.)
Most children and young people in care lack a consistent relationship with an adult and miss out on the experiences and opportunities this can offer them. As an Independent Visitor you will meet with them about once a month to take them out, have fun and be a good role model.
Male and female volunteers are needed, you should be able to commit to at least two years, thereby providing the young person with long-term consistency, and be able to spare at least 2 hours per month.
Before you can become an Independent Visitor CCC undertake interviews, references, and checks, including an enhanced DBS (criminal records) check.
You will need to complete a training programme, involving safeguarding training and will be provided with on-going support and supervision.
