About this role
Measham and District Youth Club meets most Friday evenings 5pm to 8pm.
There are two or three paid Youth leaders and one or two of the Trustees attend as well.
We are looking for people who would enjoy being with children and young people in the 10 to 15 year age group.
The Volunteer would work under the direction of the leaders to help supervise the activities. The sessions alternate between ” chill evenings” (when the young people play pool, air hockey, computer games or just chat) and more structured evenings such as baking, sports competitions, beauty evenings, crafts.
The aim of the club is to provide a safe, fun, place to be with others – to learn social skills and the chance to try new opportunities that they may not get at home.
The volunteers must enjoy working with children and young people and be willing to engage with them and to provide a listening, empathetic, ear if they have problems they want to talk about.
We would ask anyone interested to attend two or three sessions on a mutual assessment basis before a decision is made as to a permanent role. If a volunteer post is offered then we would ask for an enhanced DBS check.
Some experience with young people would be an advantage, but isn’t essential. The main qualification is the ability to relate to the young people and to be able to work within a team.
