Joining Team Welly’s as a Volunteer Driver will give you the opportunity to help break down one of the biggest barriers that people with a learning disability face – accessible transport.

Welly’s Work Place is an innovative day service for adults with a learning disability. We support over 50 people to access work and wellbeing opportunities across Melton Mowbray.

About the organisation:

Welly’s Work Place is an innovative person-centred day service based in Melton Mowbray. We support adults with a learning disability to learn new skills, grow in confidence, and be an active part of their community by running their own social enterprise, Sunny Skies Enterprises CIC.

Full Details:

The role of a volunteer driver is to provide transport to adults with a learning disability who want to attend Welly’s Work Place LTD but struggle due to a lack of accessible public or private transport options.

You would provide transport for up to 3 passengers at a time. Journeys would be across Melton Mowbray and surrounding villages. You would get to know your passengers. This is a great opportunity for conversation, laughter, and maybe some car karaoke (not obligatory!)

You would use your own car for this role. We would reimburse your expenses at a rate of 45p a mile (plus free coffee and cake in our Sunny Skies café!)

When and Where:

Our biggest need for volunteer drivers is Monday to Friday, 9:00 – 10:00 in the morning and 15:30 -16:30 in the afternoon.

We do have occasional requirements for volunteer drivers to help with special events and activities outside of our usual day service opening and closing schedule.

We will work with you to fit your schedule around your preferences.

Whether you can only do a few hours a week or every day, our biggest requirement is reliability.

To be a volunteer driver, it is vital that you have a good driving record (please let us know if you have points on your licence so that we can discuss this with you). Your vehicle should always be clean and presentable. It must be fully insured, have an MOT (where applicable), and be road legal and well maintained. Please note: This role requires an enhanced DBS check and references for every volunteer or professional role where you have worked with children or adults at risk of abuse or neglect.
