We have the perfect volunteering opportunity available for a Foodshare and Pantry Distribution Assistant.

Braunstone Foodshare is our foodbank scheme, the purpose of which is to work towards alleviating food poverty in Braunstone. This is a means-tested, membership-based scheme available to people in need living in the LE3 1 postcode area. We have a long-term volunteering position available on a Wednesday, for a Foodshare and Pantry Distribution Assistant.

In order to undertake this role, you will be required to support the Foodshare team on a Foodbank day, assisting both members of the Foodshare and Pantry when they come in to collect their food.

Client confidentiality is a must, and applicants should have good communication skills. This is a unique opportunity to work within the community, providing help and assistance to some of the most vulnerable people in Braunstone.

You must be available on a Wednesday to undertake this role and be able to provide a minimum of 2 hours volunteering per week.

What you’ll be doing 

One of our vital and key roles. The Foodshare and Pantry Distribution Assistant Role is an integral part of the b inspired Foodshare service.

You will work with the Neighbourhood Support Team and Volunteers, to assist in the smooth running of Foodshare on Foodbank Days. You will help people to access the foodbank, by welcoming Foodshare and Pantry members and helping pantry members to choose their items. You will also be asked to prepare fresh fruit and veg bags for Foodshare members.

The Foodshare service is in operation from 10am – 4pm on Tuesdays and 9.30am – 4pm on Wednesdays.

Person Specification and Skills required

Reliability.

The ability to dedicate some time every week to volunteering with the foodbank.

Communication:

A basic ability to communicate with others; including b inspired staff, volunteers and members of the public.
Volunteers should be friendly, respectful and patient with excellent communication skills.
Volunteers will have the ability to use discretion and compassion when communicating with others.

Customer Service:

Customer service skills. Basic understanding and knowledge of customer service and how to work in a public-facing role.

Health and Safety:

Basic knowledge and understanding of food safety and hygiene practises.
The role involves preparing fresh food (fruit & veg bags) for the foodbank each week.
Basic catering knowledge. Includes the ability to advise pantry members on how best to use the products they choose.
