About this role
The National School Games is a bi-annual multi-sport event for the UK’s aspiring school age talented athletes. (Although, for obvious reasons, it was postponed last year and moved to this year). Our aim is to create an inspirational and motivational setting, that not only provides young talented athletes with an educational experience and opportunity to thrive and perform at the highest levels, but encourages more young people to participate and succeed in sport.
Ten National Governing Bodies of Sport are involved in the planning and running of their competitions at this event. Of the ten sports, three of them, Athletics, Cycling & Triathlon, incorporate disability events, and two of them, Wheelchair Basketball and Wheelchair Tennis are Paralympic only sports. The remainder of the sports are, BMX (new for 2021) Hockey, Modern Pentathlon (Laser Run), Netball and Women`s Cricket.
Around 1,200 of the nation`s finest young sports stars will participate in this event.
For us to successfully deliver the event we need around 200 volunteers, who will act as representatives for the event. We are looking for friendly, outgoing and reliable volunteers to fulfil a variety of roles.
For the majority of roles, no specific experience is required, as training (including safeguarding training) and briefings will take place prior to the event to ensure that you are fully prepared for your role and responsibilities. You will also be required to complete the relevant checks.
For some roles, it will be beneficial, but not essential, to have knowledge of the Loughborough University campus, have experience of working with young people in a sports based setting, have good communication and listening skills, be able to follow instructions and be able to work on your own initiative, as well as work effectively as a team.
As a volunteer you will receive School Games branded event kit and a packed lunch during your shifts.
