About this role

Scouting equips young people with skills for life. It develops self-reliance, teamwork, leadership and confidence. The 42nd is 70 years old this year, and we currently provide some 180 young people from 6 to 18 with challenging, fun experiences. We have our own headquarters building and we have a sound financial position.

The Group is a charity whose assets and activities are managed by its Executive Committee. We currently need expertise in the following key roles.

Deputy Chair. The role is intended to assist the Chair in supporting the Group Scout Leader. Duties of the Chair include;

·        developing strategy for volunteer recruitment and Group development

·        scheduling and chairing Executive Committee meetings (normally one per school term plus one for budget approval and one for AGM planning),

·        submitted the Group’s annual report to the Charities Commission,

·        Supporting other Executive Committee members in carrying out their roles

Deputy Treasurer. To assist the treasurer by

·        developing annual budgets,

·        reporting financial status to the Executive Committee

·        Advising on financial policies

·        Preparing annual income and expenditure accounts.

These roles do not require any previous Scouting experience, but work-related expertise and experience will obviously help. A small amount of training (online) is required, and candidates must be eligible to act as charity trustees and will need to undertake a Scouting DBS check. There is no upper age limit for candidates.

Deputy Group Scout Leader

This is a full leadership role to support the Group Scout Leader, particularly by monitoring programme and membership developments from The Scout Association and supporting section leaders in planning and delivering a progressive, safely deployed programme across the Group.

If you believe you can help, or if you would like to know more, then please contact Tony Withers at 42nd.gsl@gmail.com.
