Overview:

Overall Purpose
The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of SOFA, developing the aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines.
Each trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the Board of Trustees reach sound decisions. This may involve:

• Scrutinising board papers
• Leading discussions
• Focusing on key issues
• Providing guidance on new initiatives
• Introducing other issues in which the trustee has special expertise

Mission: Collect furniture and electrical goods from Leicestershire to promote re-use and thereby benefit the environment. Help local people in need with furniture and electrical items at affordable prices. Provide a real work environment for volunteers seeking to improve their life opportunities

Full Details:

Main Responsibilities
• To ensure that SOFA and its representatives function within the legal and regulatory framework of the sector and in line with the governing document, continually striving for best the practice in governance
• To uphold the fiduciary duty invested in the position, undertaking such duties in a way continually striving for best practice in governance that adds to public confidence and trust in the charity
• To determine the overall direction and development of the charity through good governance and clear strategic planning

Main Duties
• Ensuring the charity complies with legislative and regulatory requirements and acts within the confines of the governing document and in furtherance to SOFA activities contained therein
• Acting in the best interest of SOFA, beneficiaries and future beneficiaries at all times
• Promoting and developing SOFA in order for it to grow and maintain its relevance to society
• Maintaining sound financial management of the charity’s resources, ensuring expenditure is in line with SOFA objects and any investment activities meet accepted standards and policies
• Interviewing, appointing and monitoring the work and activities of the Chief Executive Officer
• Ensuring the effective and efficient administration SOFA and its resources
• Acting as a counter-signatory on SOFA cheques, electronic payments authorisation and any applications for funds, if and when required
• To maintain absolute confidentiality about all sensitive/confidential information received in the course of trustee’s responsibilities to the charity

Trustees are
• accountable in varying degrees to a variety of stakeholders, including: service users, members, funders, the Charity Commission, and Companies House
