Overview:

Palliative care means caring for the whole person, including caring for their spiritual needs. Someone’s spiritual needs may change when they’re diagnosed with terminal illness. With your skills and experience, you will be helping patients and their loved ones to reflect on their lives, plan for their death and make sense of what’s happening. Some patients may have religious practices that are important to them which you may be able to facilitate.

LOROS Hospice is a local charity and every year we care for over 2,500 people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. We deliver free, high-quality, compassionate care and support to terminally ill patients, their family and carers. We deliver care that is special and unique to each individual

Full Details:

What will you be doing?

– Regular visiting of the in-patient ward and Day Therapy to provide religious, spiritual and pastoral care to individuals.
– To respond appropriately and sensitively to needs as requested, for example visiting the seriously ill, dying, and bereaved/distressed.
– To facilitate collective worship and prayer as requested.
– To participate in the training and education of staff, if appropriate.
– To develop personal awareness and skills relevant to the role and to undertake training as available.
– To maintain a high degree of discretion and absolute confidentiality (subject to signing the LOROS confidentiality agreement).

– An understanding that you may be required to speak with people of all faiths or no faith and support without bias

– Willingness and appropriate interpersonal skills to be alongside patients with life limiting illness and those important to them
