About this role

About the Opportunity:

Through our partnership with Aviva, Trent Rivers Trust are implementing Natural Flood Management in the Moat-Brook, South-West of Loughborough in Leicestershire. Natural Flood Management (or NFM) utilises natural processes to slow the flow of water and reduce the risk of flooding downstream. Loughborough has a long history of flooding and in Moat Brook, this is heightened due to its steep catchment area which means the area is often at risk of flooding following heavy rainfall.

As a volunteer, you will be helping Trent Rivers Trust to set up Natural Flood Management solutions in the Moat Brook catchment, building natural barriers to slow the flow of water along key surface water flow paths within the woodland. This will also be an opportunity to see how locally available material can be used to prevent flooding and to learn how, by mimicking natural processes, you can mitigate flooding.

What to expect:

Outwoods Woodland has space for 60 parked cars and a disabled space. We will be walking through the woods to where we will be working. Mobile phone signals can be varied and will depend on your provider. Getting to the site we will be working at, will require walking down a steep hill, and through muddy terrain.

Parking & Access & Location:

Located on Woodhouse Lane, Woodhouse Eaves, LE11 3YG, the Outwoods car park has space for approximately 60 cars in unmarked parking bays and one marked disabled space.

Visitors are required to pay £2 to park for a day. The charges apply every day (including Bank Holidays) between 6 am and midnight. The car park has free Blue Badge parking.

What to bring with you (ESSENTIAL):

Waterproof jacket, waterproof trousers and warm layers
Gardening/work gloves
