Roving Rangers in the National Forest

About this Opportunity

Overview:

The National Forest Roving Rangers meet monthly on the first Sunday and fourth Thursday of the month, 9.30am until lunchtime.

Tasks undertaken are a mixture of conservation project work and site maintenance, at various community woodlands in the National Forest including Seale Wood, near Overseal; Bignalls Wood at Lount; Gresley Wood in Swadlincote and Mill Hill Wood in Ibstock.

A friendly and welcoming group, no previous experience is needed to join in.

About the organisation:

Forestry England care for more land and trees than any other organisation in England, shaping the landscapes for people, wildlife and timber. We look after Hicks Lodge Forest Centre and 18 community woodlands across the National Forest.

Full Details:

Tasks could include:
* Hedgelaying
* Trail Maintenance
* Pruning
* Pond Maintenance
* Tree Planting
* Habitat Row Creation
* Coppicing
Forestry England will provide suitable training including use of equipment, tool talks and provide PPE.

When and Where:

Once signed up as a volunteer, you will receive an email each month with task day dates and venues. They could include:
Seale Wood, near Overseal; Bignalls Wood at Lount; Gresley Wood in Swadlincote and Mill Hill Wood in Ibstock.

Over 16 years only. Under 18s will need parental consent and may not be able to participate in every activity. Wear suitable sturdy footwear (closed boots or shoes) Wear clothing suitable for gardening work For this opportunity you must be able to navigate uneven ground – get in touch to discuss alternative opportunities.
