About this role

Rainbows are the youngest section of Girlguiding (aged 4-7). With guiding girls have fun, adventure and the space to discover their potential; they take what they do in guiding with them as they grow up. Everything from working in a team, to taking the lead, to speaking out on issues they care about. It helps them develop the skills and confidence to become the young women they want to be. And to make a difference to the world around them.

Rainbows learn by doing – they get their hands dirty, do sports, arts and crafts and play games. Being a Rainbow is all about having the space to try new things. Through taking part in a range of different activities with girls their own age, Rainbows develop self-confidence and make lots of new friends. Rainbows learn and grow through a programme of age-appropriate activities, trips and adventures – both in their regular meetings and at special events. They can work towards interest badges, where they can learn about everything from recycling to storytelling, and start their skills builder journey, developing core skills and trying new things like camping, leadership and first aid.

We are looking for adult volunteers to support the running each of our 3 Rainbow groups (known as a unit) in Birstall: Tuesdays 4.45-5.45pm, Wednesdays 5.45-6.45pm and Fridays 5.15-6.15pm. Meetings will be held weekly so this is the preferred time commitment, however we would consider applicants who could help on a fortnightly or even monthly basis. You may have an interest in working with children aged 4-7 in order to develop skills in preparation to work with this age group as a future employment opportunity, or just want to help shape and mould the future generation of strong, independent young women.

A knowledge of Safeguarding and First Aid would be preferable, but full training is provided if not. There are also opportunities to gain qualifications in Leadership if desired. You must be able to work as part of a team and be a positive role model in your actions, but ultimately willing to try something new and have some fun!
