About this role
Canine Partners are recruiting volunteers who will help our Dog Welfare Team, with tasks associated with our kennels building, and provide enrichment for the dogs in advanced training.
By volunteering you will:

Volunteers are an invaluable part of our team and whatever time you can give, will help us to continue our life-transforming work. We have opportunities, Monday – Friday, 8.30 – 5.00pm which can fit around your free time and personal commitments.
What is involved?
Commitment to a regular day/time that you are able to come into the training centre to support our team.
Tasks include: Dog handling activities, such as:
- Supporting new dogs settling into kennels
- Providing enrichment for dogs (play sessions, walk in the field etc)
- Grooming and health checking dogs when required
- Providing daily care, including feeding, watering and bathing when required
- Using Canine Partners approved equipment e.g. leads, harnesses, when instructed.
General tasks, such as:
- Washing up, drying and putting away any dog toys/Kongs/bowls etc.
- Emptying bins (both human and dog waste)
- Daily cleaning of kennels to Canine Partner standards. Deep cleaning of kennels when required.
- Disinfecting toilet areas (includes picking up dog waste)
- Washing and drying of laundry
- Putting together foster bags for new dogs.
- Making/ topping up treats and stuffed kongs
- Making feeds when necessary
- Restocking of supplies
- Reporting any concerns regarding each dog to your point of contact
- Complete records to confirm exercise and feeding.
- Answering queries from colleagues and visitors
If you are registered as a volunteer driver, you may also drive to drop off or pick up dogs, food or other items. You will also have the opportunity to observe a variety of training sessions with both our dog welfare officers and advanced trainers.
Support and Training:
– Induction process which includes submitting of information form, reference, tour of kennels, shadowing and training opportunities.
– On-going Instruction and support from our dog welfare officers. This will be in person, as well as via handouts, if necessary, etc.
– Opportunities to upskill, develop your knowledge and expand your capabilities with our Webinars and in-house training.
– Reimbursement of pre-approved expenses when requested.
– Invitation to join our Official Canine Partners Community Facebook Group
– A point of contact who will support you in your role.
– Volunteer clothing and ID badge

What we require from you:
- You live within a reasonable distance of our training centre in order to commute weekly (post code LE12 9SR)
- That you are over 16 years of age
- Though desirable, prior dog experience is not required.
- You are comfortable working around dogs.
- Have the time and ability to commit to supporting our dog welfare team.
- This role can involve a lot of physical work. You are likely to spend periods of time outdoors, regardless of weather conditions. Such tasks include, but are not limited to:
Moving large bags of food
Holding strong dogs on lead
Cleaning large areas with mops and/ or brushes
Have a means of transport to get to and from the centre.
Have the ability to follow instructions.
Good communication skills
Friendly, conscientious with a can-do attitude
Ability to work on your own, and as part of the team.
