About this role

Home from Hospital Volunteers transform the lives of older people by supporting and empowering them to live the life they want and stay connected to their communities after a stay in hospital.

From on the ward to back at home, even everyday tasks can seem a challenge when you’re recovering. Our volunteers provide a helping hand while an older person gets back on their feet  Whether it is visiting on ward, providing a welcome home, company to the shops or collecting a prescription, our volunteers make a real difference to the older people they support. If you would like to have a positive impact on older people in your community then this is the role for you.

Your role will involve elements of lone working and building a relationship with those you visit, which is hugely rewarding for both you and the older people. Your role will include working with the older person to identify what would improve their life and then enabling them to take positive steps to connect to their community and reduce their isolation. This could include one to one or group activities and may link into other services in the area – whatever suits the older person.

We also have opportunities available for people with specific skills so please tell us all about you when we meet. You will receive relevant training for your role and will be welcomed and supported by a friendly local team.

Our volunteers tell us that they benefit as much as the older people they help; training and development, the opportunity to meet new people, hearing fascinating stories, keeping busy and making a difference in the community are just some of the reasons why people volunteer with RVS.

Our volunteers are at the heart of all we do. Royal Voluntary Service volunteers contribute their time, energy and skills to improve their communities. As a Royal Voluntary Service volunteer you will be part of a historic charity that believes everyone should feel valued and involved, regardless of their age. We aim to reach 2 million older people by 2023 and we know that sharing time changes lives.
