About this role

With guiding girls have fun, adventure and the space to discover their potential; they take what they do in guiding with them as they grow up. Everything from working in a team, to taking the lead, to speaking out on issues they care about. It helps them develop the skills and confidence to become the young women they want to be. And to make a difference to the world around them.

Guides have an exciting and varied programme designed to inspire and challenge girls from 10-14. They participate in lots of exciting activities at regular meetings to special events and trips away. They choose from different badges and awards which help them to learn new skills and try new challenges, either individually or in small groups during their regular unit meetings.

Girls at Guides are encouraged to be adventurous, to try new things, to celebrate their achievements and challenged to achieve something special. They have the opportunity to get involved in our leadership opportunities and to have their say on issues they really care about. They are given a chance to make a difference to their local community and gain skills in order to become creative and independent thinkers.

We are looking for adult volunteers to support the creation of a new Guide unit in Birstall, on either a Wednesday or Friday evening. Full training would be provided in order to run a new group (known as a unit) in the form of the Girlguiding Leadership Qualification. In order to take on this role you may have an interest in working with children aged 10-14 in order to develop skills in preparation to work with this age group as a future employment opportunity, or just want to help shape and mould the future generation of strong, independent young women.

A knowledge of Safeguarding and First Aid would be preferable, but full training is provided if not. You must be able to think creatively, work as part of a team and be a positive role model in your actions, but ultimately willing to try something new and have some fun!
