About this role

The purpose of the role is to help provide an effective and efficient advice service to members of the public.

Main duties involve:

  • Interview clients through a variety of channels; on the telephone, video advice through Attend Anywhere, email and face-to-face.
  • Find, interpret and communicate information; explore options and implications so that the client can come to a decision
  • Act, where necessary, on behalf of the client; negotiating, drafting or writing letters or making appropriate referrals
    Complete clear and accurate case records
  • Recognise the root causes of problems and participate in research and campaigns
  • Keep up to date on important issues by attending the appropriate training courses and doing essential reading and attending office meetings

Requirements

  • References needed

You will be required to volunteer at least 7 hours per week for a duration or at least 12 months following completion of training. (There is also the option to do the Telephone Assessor role - which is great way to be up a running helping the service before doing the further training for Generalist Adviser)

This would be a minimum of 2 half days or 1 full day.

Training is done through self study on our training database and Googlemeet training sessions with training officers, along with observations in offices and via calls
