Gallery Customer Assistants

About this role

Volunteers are important members of the Attenborough Arts Centre front of house team. They are people who share a love of the arts, giving freely of their time in order to contribute to the continued success of the Centre and it’s work.

As an AAC Vol you will enjoy a sense of being a part of an organisation who has over 18 years of experience in providing performances, courses, workshops and activities for children and families. We are proud to champion emerging talent and disability-led artists, supporting those starting their careers.

Our audience has grown to 86,000 people over the last year and our brand new gallery is now attracting a wider range of visitors every day. The gallery is dedicated to the exhibition of contemporary British and international art. Doubling the size of our existing building, the new £1.5 million capital project makes Attenborough Arts Centre the largest contemporary art gallery in Leicester and one of the largest in the East Midlands area.

What’s expected of you?

All applicants must be 18+ years old.

AAC volunteers work as part of the FOH department providing support and assistance for all of our gallery exhibitions. They are the face of the gallery spaces and provide outstanding customer care to our visitors. It is important that all of our volunteers have the aptitude, personality and confidence in order to provide this.

Opportunities exist for all scheduled gallery exhibitions, and also at other events, external hires and Main Hall performances.

Times vary depending on the schedule but on average the volunteer will be expected to be available Monday – Friday. The gallery is open 10am – 5pm and the times will be within this timescale.

A minimum of two volunteers are required at any one time in our gallery space and volunteers can choose which days/times they can sign up for and we ask for a minimum commitment of two per month. We feel this expectation is necessary to ensure that the volunteers are up-to-date with procedures so that we can maintain the effective running of our programme.
