The opportunity to support Healthwatch Leicester and Healthwatch Leicestershire at city and county-wide events. To engage with local people and encourage others to get involved. Be the eyes and ears of the local community or community of interest and bring to the attention of the staff team issues or concerns. Collate the views of people to input to Healthwatch developments and initiatives.

About the organisation:

Healthwatch Leicester and Healthwatch Leicestershire is your local health and social care champion. From Belgrave to Belvoir and everywhere in between, we make sure NHS leaders and other decision makers hear your voice and use your feedback to improve care.

Full Details:

Your role as a Healthwatch Community Champion is to help HWLL residents get the best out of health and social care services in HWLL. You will be given information about advice and support agencies in HWLL. You will help identify local organisations and groups who can provide advice and support about health, social care and wellbeing. This is an opportunity for you to get involved in helping people get the support they need to make healthy lifestyle choices. You will help make your community a healthier place to live.

As a Healthwatch Community Champion you will:

• Identify local events and activities to attend.
• Work with HWLL to establish a regular (at least monthly) drop-in event at a community venue in your local area
• Support and assist local residents to raise their level of wellbeing by providing information and signposting them to organisations which can provide further support.
• Publicise and promote community consultation events.
• Assist in consultations with local residents to identify needs, issues, problems and good practice.
• Gather information about the experiences of local residents in health and social care services in HWLL.
• Assist in the distribution of newsletters, leaflets and other publicity and information material.
• Encourage local residents to participate in existing activities in their local community, and develop new activities.
• Provide information to the HWLL staff team about health, social care and wellbeing activities in your local area.
• Work within the policies, procedures and guidelines of Voluntary Action LeicesterShire and the HWLL Code of Conduct for Volunteers.

• Enthusiasm, commitment and a willingness to learn. • Commitment to promoting equality and appreciating diversity. • An interest in increasing the wellbeing of the local community. • The ability to communicate effectively (verbally) and build relationships with local people. • Patience, and a willingness to listen to people’s stories. • To understand boundaries and the need for confidentiality where appropriate. No previous experience is needed, just an interest in your local area and the people in it.
