Overview:

We’re looking for a volunteer to support our group for young asylum seekers who have just moved to Leicester, every Monday morning 11-12:30 or afternoon 1:30-3 in the city centre. This group helps newly arrived Children and Youth to become school-ready and gain some basic English skills.

About the organisation:

After18 is a charity which specialises in supporting unaccompanied children and young refugees under 25 to adjust to living in the UK, consider their options and prepare for their future. We also provide a wide range of activities for young people to socialise, have fun and learn new skills.

Full Details:

After18 runs a group for young asylum seekers who have recently arrived in Leicester but haven’t yet started school or college. The weekly group provides an opportunity for them to gain some basic English skills, become accustomed to the classroom environment and education system and meet others from a similar background.

We are looking for an experienced volunteer teacher or tutor to support this group, providing English tuition at beginner level and helping the Children and Youth prepare to go to school or college.

Volunteers must be available on a Monday morning (11-12:30) or afternoon (1:30-3) in Leicester city centre.

As a volunteer teacher at After18, you may be involved in:

*Working one-to-one or in small groups with Children and Youth
*Planning a learning session to introduce new language skills
*Developing and maintaining After18’s learning resources
*Recording and evaluating progress
