Overview:

Culture to You is aimed at providing ‘at home’ access to collections of art, museum handling objects, and cultural activities to those unable to reach our heritage and library sites. We are looking for Volunteers to support the pilot of CTY, with a specific focus on dementia and SEN awareness.

About the organisation:

Leicestershire County Council’s Communities and Wellbeing Service support over 800 volunteers within Libraries, Heritage and Adult Learning who help make a difference to our local communities.

Full Details:

Culture to You: is a new offer providing access to collections of art, objects and activities to those unable to visit our sites. This includes Memory Boxes; a multi-sensory experience which explores themes such as childhood, holidays etc designed in mind for individuals with dementia and/ or learning differences.

As a CTY Reminiscence Volunteers you will:

• Deliver Memory Box activity to clients in their home, supporting them to engage, reminisce and explore their connections
• Support the evaluation of our pilot project and help shape its future development.

• Training provided including: Object handling and Memory box activities, safeguarding, dementia and awareness
• Enhance understanding of the importance of connecting and engaging with culture.

Flexibility to suit you (Mon-Fri) – regularity of every 3-4 weeks.:

Taking Memory box and Reminiscence activities from the Record Office to clients homes in the Oadby and Wigton area:

Is this you?:

• Interested in art/culture/history and its role in supporting peoples wellbeing
• Confident engaging, communicating with and befriending a diverse range of people • An interest in working with those who have dementia and/ or learning differences
• Able to drive and willing to travel (In the Oadby and Wigston areas)
• Willing to undertake training to help carry out this role.
• Aged 18 and above
• Able to carry and transport objects and artworks

An advanced DBS check is required. Training relevant to the role needs to be completed before starting, which will be provided.
