We need cooking volunteers to help plan, prepare, and plate a 2-3 course free meal. Whether you just prefer to chop or want to showcase your dessert making skills, you don’t need any previous experience in cooking to help out! Full training and support is provided!

About the organisation:

We are a national charity that fights food waste and brings communities together at the same time. We provide FREE weekly meals to local communities using surplus fruit and vegetables that would otherwise be wasted. We rely on local volunteers to support and run the meals for their community.

About the role:
As a Cooking Volunteer you’ll join the kitchen team to help produce a three-course vegetarian meal using surplus food. You’ll contribute to recipe ideas, help with prepping the food, cooking the meal, and of course clearing up afterwards! You’ll be supported by a FoodCycle Project Leader, who will help you to develop your kitchen skills. You don’t need to have any previous experience – you just need to get stuck in!

Our cooking volunteers start every Monday at 10am, finishing at 3pm, with no expectation for you to volunteer every week (although you can if you want to!).

Each Project is run on the ground by a team of lead volunteers called Project Leaders, who ensure the smooth running of their FoodCycle Project. Project Leaders are passionate, committed and want to make a positive change within their community. They take ownership and make decisions about the day-to-day running of their Project.

Skills you’ll learn:
? Teamwork: you’ll work as part of a team to help produce a delicious meal for our guests.
? Cooking: you’ll learn how to cater for large numbers and how to make nutritionally balanced meals.
? Creativity: you won’t know what your ingredients are before the session so you’ll need to get creative to come up with recipe ideas and produce a great meal!

? Ongoing support and advice from a FoodCycle Project Leader.
? Expenses, including mileage, covered in line with our volunteer policy.
