About this role

We would like Volunteers to serve as community panel members. Each Youth Offender Panel meeting will consist of two community members and a member of the Youth and Justice Team.

The panel will meet with the young offender and their family and the victim (where appropriate) with the aim of reaching an agreement on why the offence happened and what can be done to prevent the youngster from re-offending and to ensure that the offender understands the consequences of their actions upon other people. Although the Panel has the backing of a court it is not a court of law.

The Panel meet every three months to review progress and can refer the young offender back to court if the agreement has not been kept.

·      Chair and manage panel meetings where young offenders have been made subject to a referral order

·      The panel works with the Young Person to agree a contract to include reparation to the victim and community

·      Help to agree what work a Young Person will complete with their worker to reduce their future risk of offending
