About the organisation:

At Quetzal we empower women to transform their lives by supporting their recovery from the trauma of childhood sexual abuse. We offer a specialist long term service for female survivors of historic abuse which helps them to improve their mental health and aid recovery.

What does being a Community Champion Volunteer mean?
Every year more than 450 women aged 16 and over, living in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland reach out for support in their recovery journey from the trauma of childhood sexual abuse. Quetzal provide free and inclusive counselling, support and outreach to empower women so they can change their lives for the better. We can’t do it alone. We are grateful for our volunteers up and down Leicestershire and Rutland who support, raise awareness and fundraise for Quetzal in their communities.
Not many people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland have heard about Quetzal, they’re not aware of our name, our cause, the full extent of our work. Join us as a Quetzal Community Champion Volunteer to help more people hear about the value of counselling and the importance of Quetzal while also creating amazing fundraising opportunities in your local area. You will be helping build an empowered network of dedicated fundraising volunteers.
By volunteering with Quetzal, you will have the opportunity to use your skills to support and have fun.  With your support, we are able to provide free counselling support, emotional support, training and outreach as well as information and support to help survivors break free from the trauma of abuse and exploitation.
There is a lot of scope with this role, and we can tailor this role in a way that best suits the individual so that they may get the most of their volunteering experience.

Important information This role is not suitable for current clients of Quetzal or anyone who has used our services in the last 12 months due to the potentially triggering nature of the role. Please note that we only accept female applicants aged 18+ : This post is exempt under Schedule 9, part 1 of the Equality Act 2010 – We are a women-only group because we believe it is vital that women have safe and supportive spaces where they can come without fear of re-traumatisation to explore their experiences and begin to recover from the trauma of childhood sexual abuse. A DBS check is required for volunteering with Quetzal. This will be paid for.
