About this role
Glebe House is a charity in Charnwood supporting adults and children with learning disabilities. We seek a new trustee to join the Board. The purpose of recruiting thisĀ trustee is that we require somebody to Chair the Board in the near future to replace the outgoing Chair who has been in post for five years so the new Trustee would be expected to become the new Chair within a few months of joining.
Experience in governance and an interest in learning disabilities is important to the role. We hold a meeting every two months in person in Loughborough.
The trustees of Glebe House are directors and have responsibility for the overall governance and financial probity of the charity. Whilst there is an expectation of occasional visits to the various venues to get an understanding of what is being delivered, there is no requirement to be involved in the day to day operation as there is a highly competent and experienced managers team to do this.

In an ideal world, the candidate would have experience of being a trustee before and knowledge of how charities function. It is important that you have an interest in the services that the charity provides and the ethos of supporting people with learning disabilities to live their lives to the full.
This is primarily a committee role, chairing bi-monthly meetings (once you have become chair) and attending a bi-monthly Finance and HR sub meeting. The Chair is also responsible for liaison with the Chief Executive, guiding discussions within the Board and for ensuring the charity observes good governance. The Chair would be supported by an experienced Treasurer and a long term, well trained SMT.
