Overview:

Core Duties

As a trustee, you will:
• Ensure the charity meets its purpose for the public benefit, as defined by the Board.
• Comply with legal requirements and our governing documents.
• Act responsibly and with integrity in the Centre’s best interests.
• Engage actively, preparing for and attending Board meetings and events.

About the organisation:

Leicester LGBTQ Centre, a pillar of support since 1976, provides a safe, inclusive space for LGBTQ+ individuals across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland. Our Centre is governed by a committed Board of Trustees and operates under articles of association. We serve as a hub for connection, celebration, and support for individuals of all sexual orientations and gender identities. Our Services We offer a wide range of services, including: • Counselling: Professional support through general and specialized domestic abuse counselling. • Social and Support Groups: Tailored spaces for youth, adults, transgender individuals, and loved ones of LGBTQ+ members. • Creative and Social Activities: Our community choir, The Pantones, and Quest, a Dungeons and Dragons group, provide opportunities for expression and camaraderie. • Training and Advocacy: We partner with organizations, schools, and community groups, offering sessions to foster LGBTQ+ inclusivity and awareness. Collaborative Environment
You’ll join a skilled, positive Board and staff team. We offer a tailored induction process to help you feel confident and prepared for your role. Though trustee roles are unpaid, we reimburse all reasonable out-of-pocket expenses.
Current and Future Projects
• New Youth Groups: We are launching weekly youth groups in Coalville and Hinckley, broadening our reach into new communities.
• Market Town Expansion: Establishing services in market towns and expanding into Loughborough to meet growing demand.
• 2025 Staffing Restructure: Subject to funding, we plan to reorganize our staffing structure to enhance service delivery and support.
• Fundraising and Growth: We have ambitious annual fundraising targets to support our expanding services, including an ongoing application for multi-year funding from the National Lottery Community Pot.
Person Specification
We are seeking individuals who are:
• Passionate about our mission and vision.
• Experienced in finance or accounting (especially for the Treasurer role).
• Skilled in legal, charity management, or HR.
• Familiar with our services and community needs.
Terms of Appointment
Time Commitment
Estimated at 5-6 hours per month, covering:
• Reviewing Board papers.
• Attending meetings and public events.
• Completing an induction and an annual one-to-one with the Chair.
Term Length
Terms are initially three years, starting Spring 2025, with opportunities for re-election.

When and Where:

Mainly evenings, very occasional weekends e.g Leicester Pride
